Where it all Began
Welcome to Ffynnonwen Natural Therapy Centre,
home of the British Institute of Allergy and Environmental Therapy.
Founded in 1987 to educate therapists in the identification of Allergic disorders, Ffynnonwen is also a busy Complementary Health Centre and Homeopathic Dispensary. The BIAET incorporating Ffynnonwen Natural Therapy Centre offer a comprehensive training course in Allergy and Environmental Therapy, approved by the British Complementary Medicine Association.
The course was written by two mainstream health professionals, Donald and Sheila Harrison, who, later in their careers, gained knowledge and experience in the field of Complementary medicine.
In the 1950’s Don had qualified as a Pharmacist at Manchester University and went on to run a number of successful pharmacies in the North of England. At that time Herbal and Homeopathic tinctures were often prescribed and used alongside newer medicines. Sheila, his wife, trained as a nurse and became a sister at Manchester Royal Infirmary. In the 1970’s, they moved with their family to Wales, looking for a quieter lifestyle.
However, soon afterwards Don became severely unwell with an allergy-related illness and Don and Sheila began researching underlying causes of allergic conditions. Whilst doing so, they also looked for ways to help the body heal itself from debilitating allergic symptoms.
Don gained a BA in psychotherapy and had a special interest in psycho-neuro-immunology. Sheila studied and qualified in Homeopathy. They both studied health kinesiology and eventually went on to develop an effective system of working with the body to identify allergic symptoms and help to alleviate them using a combination of isopathic remedies and specialised health advice gained from considerable clinical experience in successfu helping their clients, many of whom had failed to respond to conventional treatment methods.
As a result of their success, they decided to write a course for therapists in order to share their knowledge and help more people. There are currently many therapists trained and using these techniques in the UK and abroad.
Additional Information
Although Don passed away in 2019 in his 90th year, Sheila is still taking an active interest. Their daughters are both directors of Ffynnonwen and are determined to continue his legacy. Christine is trained to Master’s degree and Diploma level in a number of Complementary Health disciplines and Jacqui has 30 years of experience in business.
The Homeopathic dispensary uses mother tinctures obtained from only reputable homeopathic suppliers using traditional methods and only naturally sourced ingredients and are made to order by our trained homeopathic dispensers. It is regulated by the Food trading Standards Authority.
The information in the course is updated in line with new requirements for a sound evidence base, the techniques taught in the course have been used safely and successfully for over 30 years.
